Under the leadership of Mr. Pinto, the UAE experienced 3 friendly matches, lost to Uzbekistan (1-2), won against Tajikistan (3-2) and recently continued to lose against Bahrain (1-3).
The poor friendly results were one of the reasons the UAE decided to fire coach Pinto.
Mr. Pinto has a wealth of international experience, and is known for his record of leading Costa Rica to the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup – where they lost to the Netherlands in penalty shootouts.
Thus, Jorge Pinto is the third coach fired by the UAE in just one year.
At the end of 2019, not long after losing to Vietnam, the UAE terminated the contract with coach Bert van Marwijk.
Shortly thereafter, the UAE signed Ivan Jovanovic, but decided to split soon when the international matches were postponed due to the influence of Covid-19.
“It’s hard to carry out my mission with the national team for a number of reasons, including differences of opinion”Coach Pinto spoke up after parting ways with the UAE.
The UAE Football Federation said it will soon find a new coach, to prepare for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The UAE will meet Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Vietnamese team in turn in the remaining matches in Group G.
Currently, Vietnam ranks first with 11 points. UAE ranked 4th with 6 points, but kicked less than competitors in group 1 match.
