Despite opposition from the right, the text should be voted on in final reading on June 29, says the leader of the group La République en Marche (LREM) in the National Assembly. The government is already preparing the decrees, he adds.
The National Assembly, despite opposition from the right, voted on Tuesday again to open medically assisted procreation (PMA) to all women (81 votes against 39, and 5 abstentions), the flagship measure of the bill bioethics re-read before its final adoption on June 29. “As of this summer, we will be able to have women in our country who will launch the assisted reproduction procedure”, affirms Wednesday June 9 on France Inter Christophe Castaner, head of the group La République en Marche (LREM) in the National Assembly.
“The text should be definitively voted in a final reading on June 29 at the National Assembly”, indicates the former Minister of the Interior. “Olivier Véran announced that the government was working in parallel to prepare the decrees. As of this summer, we will be able to have women in our country launching criminal proceedings.”
The PMA open to all women was a presidential campaign promise of Emmanuel Macron in 2017. This bill allows the PMA to lesbian couples and single women. It will be reimbursed by Social Security.
“We had to take the time to listen to everyone and move forward”, explains Christophe Castaner, who denies everything “forced passage” as Didier Sicard argued with our colleagues from Figaro [article payant]. The former president of the National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) affirms that this bill is the “only will of the President of the Republic to want to pass a text”. “This is not the case”, answers the group leader of the majority at the Palais Bourbon. “We took the time, the time for dialogue, the time for discussion, a bit long. […] I understand that for those who waited, it should be long, but at the same time, it is a choice that tears and divides in society “.
Regarding surrogacy (surrogacy), Christophe Castaner insisted on affirming the position of the majority group of parliamentarians: “It’s the commercialization of the body, which has absolutely nothing to do with PMA.”
