Want Vs Need – The difference between wanting and needing

There is a big difference between wanting what you want and needing what you want, and both are just emotional states that you need to be aware of. If you are on your way to attracting what you want, you must be careful not to slip into the negative emotional state of need. There is a horrible and vicious mentality among humans that says that many of the things that we have we need when in reality, there are only a few things that we really need and the rest are things that we want. There is nothing wrong with wanting, however allowing yourself to believe that you need something will only prevent you from getting it.

We must know what we want and we must have a passion for having what we want. There is nothing wrong with having this passion or the desire to have it. However, the problem for many people is that they fall into a need mentality. A need mentality will not give us what we want. In fact, it will start to push it away, making it increasingly difficult for us to have what we want. When we work with the law of attraction, we need to have a burning desire for what we want. This is the emotional driver that brings us closer to the things we want. Our ability to put positive emotion in our visualizations, as well as a strong and powerful passion in acquisition, is directly related to our obtaining what we want. However, we must remember that we must not take it too seriously. Wishing is a very powerful thing, but getting so attached to what we want only causes emotional distress.

A great example of want vs. the need that I think you can relate to would be in relationships. Which would you prefer. Someone who calls you just to say hi and wants to spend time with you, but doesn’t get mad when you can’t. Someone who simply enjoys your company when he is with you, but who is totally okay with being alone and with his own life. Or would you prefer someone who calls you constantly to know where you are and when you will be together again? Someone who is upset when you can’t and keeps it against you for weeks. The kind of person who needs you in his life to feel like he’s validated for who he is. The first person was probably your choice. We all enjoy someone who enjoys us for us, but who is strong enough in himself to the point where he doesn’t need us to validate him and what he is. Someone in need just makes us want to run away, and the law of attraction works the same way.

The more you feel like you have to have something and the more emotion you put into holding onto that thing, the more you push it away. This happens because you are so determined to have to be a certain way that you create stress at the thought of not having it. If, instead, you start to feel good about not having what you want, but wanting it anyway, you will be much closer to getting what you want. Need creates a lack mindset in your life rather than an abundance mindset. Coming from a position of need is not a position of power and options. As soon as you realize that the universe will give you what you want and that it can come in a million different ways, the closer you will be to creating a mindset of wanting out of wanting a life you control rather than from a position of need and have to have it.

Necessity makes us stick to a specific idea or result. Attaching to anything always causes emotional distress. When we try to hold on to something we put ourselves in a position that allows us to hurt ourselves when that thing goes away, and since nothing lasts forever, everything is destined to have a beginning and an end. Sticking to the idea that you must have a specific car will not open the door to other opportunities to have another similar car or another car that is better than the one you wanted, but you just didn’t realize it was there. We have to be aware of our need and attachment to everything in life. Need pushes things away and causes unwanted heartache and sadness in our lives. Instead, learn to open up to possibility and potential. Allow the universe to work through you as if you were an open conduit. Trust that what you want will come to you, or better, and the universe will deliver it to you.
